H&B mutes were invented by Willie Berg in 1935 and have proved
popular ever since. Stone lining ensures that they hold their tuning
even on higher registers. H&B are also known for their free blowing qualities.
This is one of the most commonly used mutes by players of all genres. Recognisable by a large lip that forms a cup over the bell, the cup mute removes the upper and lower frequencies of the instrument which gives a rounder, more muffled tone.
