The extending tube mute (also known as an ET, HARMON or WOW mute) has a strong recognisable character and is really versatile as it can be used in 3 ways:

• By moving your hand on and off the stem opening you can produce a 'waa waa' sound typical to jazz.
• The stem can be removed completely or pushed in to change the muted effect on your instrument.
  
• With the stem completely removed, your trumpet will sound brassy and bright.
