Saturday 22nd February
Sheehan’s Music is proud to announce the opening of a dedicated Lowden room here in our Leicester showroom, having become the UK’s largest stockist of Lowden guitars. Lowden guitars are hand built in Ireland by a dedicated team of craftsmen working alongside George Lowden. Every Lowden guitar across the range is shaped and voiced by hand from the finest materials, to exacting specifications.
The room will be officially opened by George Lowden himself on the 22nd February, and will be an exclusive opportunity to meet the man responsible for creating some of the world’s best handmade instruments.
The timing of this event couldn’t be better, as this year is George’s 40th anniversary of guitar making and designing. As a celebration of this, George will be creating a limited edition run of 40 special models. For these limited edition models George will personally select and voice the woods from a selection of his master grade stock, and will be involved in the final set up. Each guitar will come with a special 40th anniversary label, inlay, and souvenir book complete with a photographic record of the guitar’s journey from start to finish.
Sheehan’s has not only managed to secure six of these limited edition guitars, but also the chance for prospective buyers to meet and personally order one with George Lowden himself. George’s wealth of experience is priceless, so this really is a fantastic and once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone looking to choose a guitar.
George will also be giving a special talk in the evening (from 6:30pm) about the art of guitar building, complete with a question and answer session afterwards.
Also, we've just got word from George that not only will he be here to open our new Lowden Showroom, he'll also be bringing Gareth Pearson along with him!
Welsh guitar phenomenon Gareth Pearson is already considered a virtuoso in the field of fingerstyle guitar, and is the newest member of the Lowden family.
This is a unique opportunity to meet one of the finest guitar builders in the world and now also one of the most exciting acoustic musicians gigging today.

Noel Sheehan founded Sheehans in 1984, after realising that there was a market for musical instrument repairs in Leicestershire. The business began trading as a repair service in a small workshop in Leicester, with 2 experienced repairers, but soon expanded into retail sales. Growth has been rapid (and sometimes chaotic!), but Sheehans is now widely regarded as one of the best acoustic musical instrument stores in the UK.
The business currently employs 12 full-time staff at our London Road, Leicester store, and is still expanding. There are now 3 repair workshops, servicing and repairing guitars, orchestral strings and wind instruments - these workshops remain a vital part of the business, as they are also responsible for setting up and testing all our instruments prior to sale. In addition to sales and repairs, we also offer a woodwind & brass instrument rental scheme, a violin, viola & cello rental scheme, and run a number of popular events including our annual Acoustic Avalon guitar show.
Sheehans is a specialist store staffed by experienced players. Our website is intended as an addition to our services, not a replacement - wherever possible, we recommend that you visit our store and experience our service first hand. However, because of our high standards of instrument set up and testing, you can be confident of ordering online from us.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
