What is a "Cookie"?
A cookie is a small file that's stored on your computer, which helps certain websites - such as this one - to work properly.
Why do Sheehans use Cookies?
If you want to use certain parts of our site, such as adding an item to your basket, or paying for your order through our checkout, we need to be able to tell the difference between you and anyone else who's using the site at the same time.
Otherwise, everyone would have to use the same shopping basket... For example, you might be shopping for a £5 set of guitar strings, and end up paying for someone else's £2000 saxophone!
To stop this happening, we use cookies. When you add an item to your shopping basket, we send your computer a cookie, with a number which we can use to identify you. If someone else adds an item to their basket, we send them a cookie with a different number.
Then, when you move to another page on our site, your computer sends a copy of your cookie back to our computer, and we can tell which order is yours.
How do I Turn Cookies On?
If you cannot add any items to your basket, this may be because you have cookies turned off in your web browser.
In most browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera, you can turn cookies on by selecting Tools > Options from your browser menu. For a more detailed explanation, look in your browser's Help section.
A few older browsers do not support cookies at all. Unless your browser has cookies turned on, you will not be able to order from our online store - but you can still browse our full range of products and place your order over the telephone instead.
What information do you put in the Cookie?
The cookie that we send to you does not contain any personal information, such as your name, address or credit card details - if we ask you for any of this information, it will be stored on our secure servers, and encrypted so that no-one else can read it.
If you looked at the Sheehans cookie, all you would see is a randomly generated string of letters and numbers like this:

Once you have completed your order, or close your browser window, the cookie disappears.
